Wisdom Tooth Extraction in Vancouver
Serving Burnaby, Metrotown & New Westminster
Gentle, CBCT-guided care—consultation first
Wisdom teeth (third molars) often don’t have room to erupt. When they grow at an angle, they can trap food, inflame the gums, and even cause a cavity on the back of the second molar where the teeth touch.
At Happy Family Dental Centre (3638 Kingsway, Vancouver, BC), Dr. Ravi Sood provides careful assessment and treatment plans using in-house CBCT/3D scanning for safer, more predictable outcomes.

Do I Need My Wisdom Teeth Removed?
You may benefit from extraction if you have:
- Pain, pressure, or swelling near the last molars
- Repeated food trapping or bad taste behind the molars
- Cavity on the distal surface of the second molar from an impacted wisdom tooth
- Gum infections (pericoronitis) or difficulty keeping the area clean
- A recommendation from your dentist/orthodontist to protect healthy teeth
Why We Start with a Consultation
Your first visit is an exam + imaging (panoramic X-ray and/or CBCT) to map the roots, bone, and nerve anatomy. We’ll review:
- Tooth position (erupted, soft-tissue impacted, partial bony)
- Proximity to the inferior alveolar nerve and sinus
- Risk of damage to the second molar (distal caries, root resorption)
- The most appropriate approach and timing
⚠️ We do not perform same-day extractions by default.
If you have severe swelling, fever, or difficulty swallowing/breathing, please seek urgent care or an emergency clinic.
What We Treat In-Office
We treat simple and many surgical extractions (including mesioangular and partial bony cases) after assessment.
Fully bony impactions may be referred when that’s in your best interest—our goal is the safest, least-stress path to healing.

FAQs
Do I need all four removed?
Not always. We remove teeth that are causing problems now or are likely to damage nearby teeth or gums. CBCT helps us decide tooth-by-tooth.
Will I be “put under”?
No. We use local anesthesia for comfort during treatment. (We do not offer sedation on-site.)
How long is recovery?
Most patients feel notably better within 2–3 days. Full healing of the socket takes several weeks.
What is a distal cavity on the second molar?
An impacted wisdom tooth can wedge into the second molar. Food and plaque collect at the contact point, often causing decay on the back of the second molar—a common reason we recommend timely removal.
Can I return to work or school the next day?
Many patients do after simple extractions; plan for 2–3 days of lighter activity for surgical cases.
What if I have swelling or fever now?
Call us and seek urgent care. If you experience severe swelling, fever, or trouble swallowing/breathing, go to an emergency clinic immediately.
